Inception - Power of Subconscious...

Dreams are nothing but an abstraction of who we are and our lives. What binds these two is nothing but our own subconscious. Subconscious by itself is immensely complex and powerful; an enigma whose mysteries are yet to be revealed...
Nolan takes off from this very thought and crafts a masterpiece by the name "Inception". Cobb played by Caprio is a specialist and an expert in extraction and stealing secrets from the subconscious mind (dreams). He achieves this by being a part of shared dream of the subject. He is also a fugitive charged with his wife's murder which he vehemently denies and wants to get back home to his children and family. He, however can't do this unless he proves himself innocent or charges are dropped. Saito offers his an assignment which will ensure that all charges are dropped, should he be able to complete the assignment. The task is of different nature vis a vis his expertise yet similar since it involves dealing with subconscious of a person. This time he was expected to plant an idea.
Just as the concept of the movie; the means used within to achieve what Cobb and Saito desire is complex. The idea of shared dreams, designing a dream- which needs a dream architect; projection and shades of subconscious, layered dreams - dream within a dream... yes... it had three layers :), theory of relativity w.r.t. to time, space and speed is bizarre and surreal.
Visuals are breathtaking and is packed with sequences which will simply blow you away. My fav two were: The one where Paris is folded like a book and they are walking in horizontals and verticals; Aurthur's fight sequence when the van in layer 1 was toppling.
Performance per se it's brilliant. Caprio delivers yet another riveting performance and is well supported by other cast.
It will require your full attention. Anything less and you would loose track of what's happening. But even with your full attention if in the end you feel like u missed something or haven't understood it (all)... well, then you are not the only one!!! Trust me... :-)
I think what Cobb set out to do in dreams, Nolan did that while we were awake and mesmerized in the theater. He incepted the thought to think out of the box and be imaginative...

Weapons of Mass Destruction

"Picked up at half volley and whacked with brutal force... so brutal that it took off at obscene speed and before you could realize it was out of park for maximum..."

This is a frequently occurring site in IPL season 3. Though the destroyer(s) are more or less the same, choice for "weapons for mass destruction" have doubled since then. As we progress towards the semi-finals of IPL, it has become more evident that "Mongoose" bat will be the choice for WoMD.

Just as specialist players are important for different forms of cricket, Mongoose is a bat specifically designed for T20. Even though it has unusually long handle, about 43% longer and has it's blade shortened by 33%, it still manages an additional 20% more power and 15% more speed off the bat... a clear advantage for the likes of Haydens, Pathans etc.

Now consider this; the top 5 most brutal hitters of IPL3 are... Hayden, Y. Pathan, Gilli, Sehwag and Symonds (in no particular order). However, only Hayden has chosen to use Mongoose where as others are still using the conventional bat. Which makes me wonder; is Mongoose worth all the hype?

"Arrogance for the day is done!!!" is what Harsha Bhogle said when Hayden was beaten and bowled on the very first ball of super over against Kings XII. His dislike for the choice of bat was quite evident. He is not entirely against Mongoose but it's usage during super overs is certainly not done. Yesterday, Symonds had planned to use Mongoose but 58/3 was not a conducive situation for it's usage.

So now the question which comes to my mind is: When should Mongoose be used? Will Mongoose trigger the death of conventional willow?
I will wait and watch. My gut feel is: it's here to stay for long.

Be it Mongoose or Non-Mongoose, as long as Haydens and Pathans continue to play their natural game, I am not worried. I like 6s, 4s and high scoring matches... how they are scored is immaterial to me.

My Name is Khan… And I am not a terrorist!!!

A lot has been said about Rizwan Khan. Some loved him, some adored, some were sympathetic and some simply couldn’t stand him. Some have complained that Karan Johar (KJ) has lost touch ever since he has digressed from Candy love stories or Happy Rich family stories; he hasn’t been able to captivate the audiences enough.

However, I beg to differ a bit. KJ, through MNIK, has vindicated his fans’ belief in him and his work. Though I have never been a great fan of KJ but I have enjoyed his work nevertheless.

MNIK is an honest and sincere attempt. Honest because it touches a very sensitive issue and sincere because it delivers the message with a punch. MNIK is a story of a person who has understood the world through three simple yet very relevant facts:

  1. There are only two types of people; Good and Bad. No religion, caste, color or creed defines a human being as good or bad. It’s the thought they have which categories them into good or bad.
  2. There is nothing bigger than love. Love will show the way all your life and help you achieve anything. Order of the commitment doesn’t make any difference.
  3. World is full of knowledge and you can learn anything and everything; all you need a will to know.

That KJ chose a Muslim protagonist and 9/11 as the tipping point, doesn’t come as surprise to me. I think Islam is the most hated religion and this, to my sensibility, is not justified. I think it is the conception created due to some of the most violent terrorist attacks conducted by a handful of Muslim extremists. But at the end of the day, there are still a major chunk of people, who look forward to acceptance from the world as whole and not just by neighboring countries.

Coming back to the movie, KJ has ventured into a different genre of movies through MNIK; Movies which have universal message and commercial sense too. MNIK has a consistent story-line and captivates the audience all along. It helps in developing a strong bond between audience and characters, primarily with Khan. It, however, flounders towards the end when KJ goes overboard in establishing the credential of Khan, never realizing that it wasn’t required.

Movie is full of beautiful and confident performances and re-establishes the fact that Kajol and SRK are and would be for a long-long time the best on-screen couples. Mandira, played by Kajol, is full of energy and extremely lovable. Through Mandira, Kajol proves again why she is such big star and hugely respected. But the movie truly belongs to SRK. To me, this has been the best performance by SRK ever. I hope he continues to challenge himself and entertains us with brilliant performances like this one. I was so impressed by the performance that I can say that though Aamir Khan is current god of Bollywood (in terms of acting); even he couldn’t have enacted Rizwan more convincingly then SRK.

It’s movie where all the fans of Kajol and SRK would fall in love with their favorite stars all over again.

So go watch it guys… not because it was opposed by some fanatics like shiv sainiks. Watch it since the movie is a decent watch, has wonderful messages; is supported by brilliance of KJ, SRK and Kajol.

Mr Tharoor, Twitter and Politics...

Cattle Class... Holy Cows etc.
For Mr. Tharoor: I doubt the fact that you were paying for your 5-star hospitality. No offense intended. But if you were and are clean then how about furnishing those payment slips. Let's kill this once and for all. If you are right then will blog my apologies; if you are not then will pose my next question.
Audacity drive is getting more attention than required. I don't mind your luxury but if it is being taken care through the tax we pay to GOI then sorry brother!!!

you must understand that you are one of the most learned politician and people look up to you for setting up examples. please, please dont be just another high profile person who feeds himself on public money and looks like a lost kid who is trying to learn tricks of the game.
For Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad: Perfect sir. you are so damn good. i am sure that if cows could understand what we humans say then probably they will give all their votes to you (BJP) and hopefully you guys can manage a better result next time.
Damn it!!!
Please rise above such pity things. try to set your house in order first and then look around for some issue which has some substance and relevance.

P.S. I love You...

"I know what I want. It is in my hand"
Everyone wishes to be a Holly or Gerry. Likes to have that perfect symphony...

"P.S. I love you" is a movie about one such Holly/Gerry. Two people madly in love with each other, who dreamt of having a big house, starting a family and wished to live a life which is normally termed as "Happily ever after", until destiny played spoil sport and snatched Gerry away.
As expected, Holly was finding it difficult to deal with his absence and was living in her memories rather than building new ones. it looked as if her life was placed on a treadmill... then one fine day... on her birthday she receives an audio message from Gerry and things started to change. through a series of letters Gerry led Molly out of her memories and encouraged her to dream and make new memories.

I saw it yesterday and i felt Holly/Gerry around me... while i was watching the movie i realized how i have closed myself and have been sleeping with my memories... every morning has the taste of yester years...
God!!!
i am proud of my past and happy that it happened... but now i guess it's time to make new memories... to seek and be seeked... its time to wear back my knockout attitude...
thank you for being around till it was possible... i will eternally be thankful to you... i hope you have a legendary life... wish you all that you ever wanted...

What a pleasant surprise!!!

Category I don't remember... But I am not gonna forget the sight of watching your name on that wide screen... and Sury and Dinesh turning to read the winner...

It was a wonderful surprise... I was a little mad with you since you didn't tell me even though you knew it well before... but forgave you [:P] since it ensured that it remained a surprise... a surprise which was exhilarating...

Boy you deserve more... I haven't known you enough to say how much... but even with my limited knowledge I am sure that this is just the beginning.

I remember that you once quoted me as inspirational... and I don’t know what made you think so... but all I can say it that this (award and the acts leading to this award), my dear friend, is truly inspirational...

keep up the spirit gal... don’t be bogged down by the drifting vectors... they are designed for distraction... keep asking "Do I wanna do this?" and only if the answer is a resounding YES, take it up and give it your best shot... RnR are just a consequence of chasing your inner choice with all your commitment... so keep running... keep dreaming... keep thinking...

Kant Sahab hai kya!!!

thak thak thak...
,"kaun hai"
Kant Sahab hai kya...

Arsaa guzar gaya...
Baat nahi hui...
Dikhate toe hain...
par mulakaat nahi hui...

Suna hai aaj kal tasweeron main jeete hain...
Guzarein samay ki yaadon main jeete hain...
bhool gaye nagamon ko phir gungunate hain...

Kya khoya aisa ki bas usko dhundhate hain...
muskuraate hai bas... par hans nahi paate hain...

,"kaun aaya"...
,"Maalum nahi... aapka sukraguzar kahta hai...
aapko aisa dekh pareshaan sa rahta hain"

,"Aare kahan jaanab,
aisi koi baat nahi...
tanhaa hain aaj kal...
aur koi baat nahi hai.

aisa nahi ki ab kal main jeete hain,
kuch guzari yaadein hai.
unko batorke kahin mahphuz rakh dein.
bas yahin sochte hai.

kuch aur dinoo ki baat hai, sahab.
phidarat hin aisi hai, ki bina hanse jee nahi paate hain!!!"

chalo, achcha hai sahab.
phir koi baat nahi.
zindagi ke takalaluf uthate rahiye...
maazaa aata hai!!!
